We might attempt to define Maple Ridge by our location. Situated
on the north shore of the Fraser River, we are an hour's drive from the heart of
Vancouver, one of Canada's major commercial centres. Our climate is that of a temperate
rain forest, with luxuriant vegetation and mild, moist winters. As a member community of
the Greater Vancouver Regional District, we enjoy the advantages of proximity to a
sophisticated urban centre, without the disadvantages of big-city life. But that's only
part of the picture.
We could also say that Maple Ridge is a wonderful place to enjoy
nature. Our many parks and trails offer an unrivalled opportunity to enjoy the peaceful
beauty of mountains, rivers and marshes - and it is all as close as the wind.
And yet . . . .Maple Ridge is a fast-growing community. Like the
Fraser River flowing swiftly past us to the south, there is a current of change urging us
on, bringing new businesses to serve our expanding population, encouraging housing and
commercial development to keep up with the needs of our residents.
We could certainly call ourselves a family-oriented community.

Annual community events such as First Night, Canada Day, Mountain Festival, and the
Agricultural Fair give families and children a chance to grow, learn, and play.
We might also say that Maple Ridge is the people who live here.
Our recent population boom has brought a substantial skilled labour force to the
community. Many of our residents commute to other areas of the Lower Mainland for
employment, while enjoying the lifestyle advantages Maple Ridge offers. Businesses and
