Caledon, Ontario

Strategically located northwest of Toronto, within a day's drive of 150 million people in Canada and the United States, the Town of Caledon is the largest municipality within the Greater Toronto Area. It is only 20 km (12 miles) from Canada's largest airport, Lester B. Pearson International Airport, which offers access to 300 destinations in 60 countries. Caledon has a land area of more than 700 square kilometers serviced by a network of 939 kilometers of local and regional roads and provincial highways. The Town of Caledon itself is a charming collection of 15 towns and villages nestled amongst some of the most beautiful rolling hills and farmland in Ontario, the largest settlements being Bolton, Caledon East, Caledon Village and Palgrave. The town is well positioned to take advantage of efficient transportation linkages to Toronto, the United States and global markets.

The Town of Caledon has the advantage of having 8 universities and 6 colleges within easy commuting distance. School facilities at both the elementary and secondary levels are provided by the Peel Board of Education (Public) and the Dufferin-Peel Roman Catholic Boards.

The Town of Caledon, with a large geographic area and population of 55,000 people, prides itself on maintaining a sustainable balance of community, environmental and development initiatives in the context of an extensive urban and rural environment. The Town is well respected for its progressive approach on “green” matters as recognized recently by being named the co-recipient of the “TVO Greenest Town in Ontario” Award in 2003.

The award was granted to Caledon because of a number of its progressive environmental initiatives. These include excellent countryside planning, the Healthy Horticultural Landscapes Bylaw, strong community involvement, membership in the Partners for Climate Protection Program and extensive waste diversion programs, in addition to the staff position of an Environmental Progress Officer (EPO) in the Fall 2004.
