Located in Vancouver's Lower Mainland, Pitt Meadows, with its naturally beautiful setting, is situated on the north side of the Fraser River between Port Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, just an hour from downtown Vancouver. Surrounded by three rivers - the Pitt River, the Fraser River, and the Alouette River - residents enjoy boating, canoeing, water-skiing, fishing, swimming, bird watching, cycling, walking and horseback riding. With its four world-class golf courses, an expanding airport and a new commuter rail link with Vancouver, Pitt Meadows is a community poised for growth. Dairy farms, Christmas tree farms, greenhouses, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries and blueberries all contribute to a thriving agricultural community. With its beautiful setting and easy access to Vancouver, Pitt Meadows is one of the most desirable communities in the Fraser Valley.

Pitt Meadows, British Columbia

Pitt Meadows has many excellent schools, a new library, churches, health care facilities and affordable housing. This municipality is also endowed with natural topography and physical features which provide for a wide variety of activities such as boating, canoeing, water-skiing, fishing, swimming, bird-watching, cycling, walking and horse-backing riding. For those people who don't like big cities, quiet pastoral Pitt Meadows has a lot to offer.

Economic Structure
Pitt Meadows is an energetic young community that is coming on strong. Forest products are a major resource sector with lumber and shake mills located along the Fraser River. The Fraser River also supports a commercial fishery. Agriculture has become a sustainable industry, vital to the area and its residents. Pitt Meadows farmers grow a variety of crops but are most famous for specialty crops such as blueberries, cranberries, raspberries and strawberries. Greenhouse growing and nursery stocks of trees, shrubs and flowers are a big business because of ideal growing conditions. The dairy farmers produce substantial amounts of raw milk for the dairy industry.

In the Official Community Plan approximately 387 acres are designated as industrial, with some 173 acres still vacant and 182 acres presently being used for non-industrial purposes. Primary manufacturing is the only type of industry being performed on industrial land in the community. The vacant and non-industrial utilized land represents a vast and yet untapped source for new industries to relocate to this municipality.

Pitt Meadows Airport
The Pitt Meadows Airport is the only airport in the Fraser Valley that is located on the north side of the Fraser River and, therefore, serves a wider user population of over 200,000 people. It is situated within the municipal boundaries of Pitt Meadows and is less than 2 kilometres from the business core of the community. Set on 280 hectares of land, it is owned and operated by the Airport Authority Group of Transport Canada.

Pitt Meadows Airport is one of the busiest airports in the province in terms of the take-offs and landings of aircraft. Strategically located between two industrial parks, it boasts three paved runways, the longest of which is 1,310 metres (4,300 feet) in length, which allows all but the largest corporate jets access to the community. Full seaplane access and facilities are available on the Fraser River - a designated deep-sea port, on the south side of the airport. Presently, there are two flying schools, one aircraft and three helicopter companies offering full charter services. Present development plans include scheduled commuter airline service, terminal facilities, Canada Customs and a restaurant and dining lounge. Full maintenance facilities from upholstery and painting through to complete engine overhaul and avionics are available from established airport businesses.

Pitt Meadows has much to offer a potential investor or resident. The District welcomes business and investment proposals. The Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce actively promotes tourism, trade and commerce to enhance the economic, civic and social well-being of the community.

Additionally, there is ample supply of residential, commercial and industrial land. Demand for homes in a rural setting has made this municipality one of the most desirable housing locations in the Fraser Valley. Since 1984, the value of building permits has risen, on average, by 55% per year.
